Target Audience/Eligibility

Individuals who have already completed a 45-hour lactation-focused education course and earned a credential and now want to fulfill the 90-hour requirement to sit for the IBLCE exam.

Goals & Objectives

The goal of this course is to help already-certified individuals reinforce and expand previously acquired knowledge and skills to promote, protect and support breastfeeding when more pathologic, complex, and technological factors threaten initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. The objectives of this course are:

  • Apply previously-acquired communication, teaching, counseling, advocacy, and problem-solving skills to more complex, team-oriented and global situations.
  • Recognize, analyze, and problem-solve conditions where anatomical and physiological variations of normal, abnormal, and pathology threaten the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding.  
  • Develop an individualized plan of care where contemporary medical, environmental and technological advances impact breastfeeding and lactation.
  • Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the research process, terminology, methods, and end-user meaning of scientific studies.
