|Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Session 11: Breast and Nipple Concerns
Breast and nipple concerns frequently occur among breastfeeding mothers. For some, having variations on breast or nipple anatomy, sore nipples, breast infections, or related issues is a major deterrent to either the initiation or continuation of breastfeeding. Worse than simply having these concerns, mothers often find themselves with no advice, inaccurate advice, or conflicting advice. The goal of this learning program is to help healthcare professionals to acquire a basic recognition of the concerns or conditions, and a fundamental understanding of the clinical management strategies that will foster the initiation and continuation of exclusive breastfeeding.
